Description
A young Eastern Spadefoot toad and a mature male. About 1 3/4" - 2 1/2" in length. Only frog/toad with vertical, cat-like pupils. Have hard "spade" protrusions on hind legs that enable it to burrow and live in the soil most of the time, therefore not seen often. Emerge at times of heavy rains to mate. Eggs hatch within a couple of days, tadpoles mature to toadlets in 16-20 days. Females can lay up to 2,500 eggs.
